I must not have had my iPod turned up loud enough when you were sitting in my office.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3800078245349617177.post-20453563635106520752008-12-23T13:03:00.000-05:002008-12-23T13:03:00.000-05:00*whew* finally got through the whole thing. nice s...*whew* finally got through the whole thing. nice stuff! in addition to some of your choices, here's what made my list:

Beath (Health, Life & Fire) by Thao - this song sounds like cool to me. Like back when i was 16 and i would make some occasional trek to greenwich village (back in pre-SaTC new york before the village was wall-to-wall million dollar lofts) and feel like a dork in my mall clothes and it seemed like everything around me was much much cooler than I was or would ever be. This song sounds like that kind of cool to me.

L.E.S. Artistes by Santogold. This whole album is just awesome as a whole so I just picked the first song. You introduced her to me as "a whole album of songs that Lori would like" and hey, you were right!Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18347242321166369842noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3800078245349617177.post-4840804896249671732008-12-23T09:32:00.000-05:002008-12-23T09:32:00.000-05:00I haven't yet heard Fleet Foxes or the Li'l Wayne ...I haven't yet heard Fleet Foxes or the Li'l Wayne album that made everyone's list, but I was just thinking about my own list this morning. It would certainly include TV on the Radio, Wale, Nas, Drive-by Truckers, James McMurtry, the Otis Redding reissue, the Amoeba records release of a Graham Parsons/Burritos show, Why?, and I think Carnival Vol II would just crack the list. Malkmus and Blitzen Trapper would be on the list, as would the Byrne/Eno album and Jamey Johnson.

Label of the year: Soundways, who are doing great work reissuing weird Nigerian pop/disco/funk gems from the 1970s.

Very disappointed by the Of Montreal album and not so keen on My Morning Jacket, though I don't have anything in particular against them.

I think Wale's commercial debut comes out in the spring of 2009...?

Nice playlist, by the way. I'll be tying up the office's bandwidth today listening to it.Newmanium Revelerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09141960528314266563noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3800078245349617177.post-3757914401284104512008-12-22T22:29:00.000-05:002008-12-22T22:29:00.000-05:00as one who typically lags behind in pop culture, i...as one who typically lags behind in pop culture, i'm a fan of "best of year" lists being the best of your exposure during that year. for instance, my favorite film of 2007 was "conversations with other women," a movie from 2005. just my humble two cents.
will have to knock out your list in segments. so far, my favorite is the kenya/dc group whose name escapes me at the moment.Molly Malonehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03603687188519209897noreply@blogger.com
